---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Aside from Arthur, JoAnn, Myron, and Big Tiny Little, I REALLY liked
Bob Lido, who was a violinist, and singer on the show. He always sang
upbeat songs, and could play the classics, or have a "fiddlin" hoe
down, and everything in between with his violin.
The best musician in the band was a woodwinds player named Bill Page.
He played saxophone, clarinet, flute, piccolo, bassoon and oboe. I once
saw him play "Bye Bye Blues" on two clarinets at the same time! He once
played "London Bridge" on eleven different instruments, one for each
stanza! He once played ""Saxophobia" on the curved soprano sax, the
alto sax, and the bass sax, using one for each stanza.
Musicians loved or hated playing on the Welk show. They loved it,
because it was the steadiest job a musician could have. The ones that
hated it did so because they were made to play strictly by
arrangements, and personal jazzy styles were not tolerated.
Lawrence Welk knew what the people wanted, and he gave it to them for
27 seasons on national television. When the Welk show debuted in 1955,
the critics panned the show. Look Magazine did an article on Lawrence
Welk, and it was titled: Lawrence Welk. Nobody likes him...but the
public!

Thanks to Don Butler for loaning his 1956 Falcon.
Courtesy of Dean Wheeler, here is the 1946 Falcon. This is a prototype
and we will be re-posting this and other yearbooks when we improve the
readability. This is Findlay's first yearbook and is a bit hard to read
in the original. We are not sure why Findlay came to the yearbook so
late (Windsor had yearbooks in the 1920s), so if anyone knows, please
share that information. CLICK
HERE FOR 1946 FALCON.
